Suspected Harasser Asked: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a recorded message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and evidence recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered missing child cases and remains unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm fat and plain like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Isn't that important for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the recording stated.
The panel was advised that via electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a effort to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who collated the evidence, informed the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with close associates of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On that date, Gerry McCann answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I won't give up and I plan to establish my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg established a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in that winter.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months before the visit to that location, the county, in last December.
The court learned communications between the two accused, in last November, planning attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We need to make a stand," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the trip to their residence, the defendant sent a text which said: "We're currently sitting adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our lights out like private investigators. I desired to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings continues.
